A starting point for comparing offices around central Los Angeles, Glendale, and Pasadena. This grouping does not mean every office is convenient from every neighborhood.

These offices span a wide east-to-west area. Pomona is substantially farther east than the other four, so compare the route from your starting point.

Westside and southwest county
These offices form a compact straight-line cluster, but roads and travel times vary. Hawthorne may also be relevant if you can extend your search toward the South Bay.

South Bay, harbor, and southeast county
This group covers several distinct parts of southern Los Angeles County. Use the comparison below rather than assuming all seven offices are equally close.

Arleta, Van Nuys, and Winnetka form the closer San Fernando Valley set. Newhall is in the Santa Clarita Valley and should be evaluated separately for your route.

How to choose offices for a scan
DriveTestWatch does not evaluate your route or decide whether an office is practical for you. Use this guide as a starting point, then verify each choice.

Begin with practical access
Consider your starting location, test vehicle, required accompanying driver, and the time you need to reach the office.

Compare a small cluster
Arleta–Van Nuys–Winnetka, Culver City–Inglewood–Santa Monica, and Bellflower–Compton–Long Beach are useful geographic comparison sets—not availability predictions.

Add other areas deliberately
Check the real route before adding offices outside your initial area, especially Lancaster, Newhall, Pomona, and San Pedro.

Office services, closures, and appointment availability can change. Confirm everything through the California DMV.
What this comparison does not show
This guide does not rank offices by appointment demand, availability, pass rate, route difficulty, or likelihood of producing an earlier appointment. DriveTestWatch does not have enough consistent regional observation data to support those comparisons.
Why there is no availability chart yet
Production observations began June 25, 2026. At this guide’s July 14 update, the data did not meet the approved minimum of 30 consecutive days with adequate scan coverage. Publishing rankings or “best time” conclusions would be premature.
Future regional analysis will disclose the observation period, included offices and dates, successful versus expected checks, missing periods, deduplication, and that results are DriveTestWatch observations—not official DMV statistics. Read the full methodology.
How monitoring works
DriveTestWatch can monitor public behind-the-wheel appointment times at offices a customer selects. Active scans are scheduled every 10 minutes. When a scheduled check finds a new opening that matches the customer’s date and time settings, DriveTestWatch attempts to send an email and, if selected, an SMS alert. Checks and message delivery can be delayed or fail.
The service is alert-only and read-only. It does not request DMV credentials or book, hold, cancel, or reschedule appointments. Availability can change between a scan, alert delivery, and an attempt to book through the official DMV website.
