The Eastern Sierra guide covers a single office—Bishop, in Inyo County at the northern end of the Owens Valley, east of the Sierra Nevada crest. There is no nearby in-region office to compare it with: the nearest monitored offices are about 78 or more straight-line miles away in other regions, and most sit on the far side of the Sierra Nevada. Treat those as long, deliberate trips through mountain terrain, not routine alternatives. If you are watching for an earlier behind-the-wheel test appointment date, add a cross-region office only if you could safely arrive with the required vehicle, paperwork, and accompanying driver.

Bishop sits on the US 395 corridor at the northern end of the Owens Valley, on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada. The five monitored offices geographically closest to Bishop are Reedley (about 78 straight-line miles), Clovis (about 79), Fresno North (about 84), and Visalia (about 86) in the San Joaquin Valley, and Mariposa (about 87) in the western Sierra foothills. All five sit on the opposite side of the Sierra Nevada crest from Bishop, so straight-line miles understate these trips even more than usual: road routes between the Owens Valley and the west side are long, pass through mountain terrain, and some close seasonally.
Ridgecrest, about 125 straight-line miles south of Bishop in Kern County, is the nearest monitored office that is also east of the Sierra crest. It is still a long trip. None of these offices is a routine alternative to Bishop—check the full route and current conditions before treating any of them as an option.

For most Eastern Sierra starting points, Bishop is the only monitored office within everyday driving range. Compare any other office against your actual route, not the straight-line figure.

Cross-region trips are commitments
The five nearest alternatives sit west of the Sierra Nevada crest, and mountain routes between the east and west sides can close seasonally. Ridgecrest stays east of the crest but is about 125 straight-line miles south.

This guide does not rank offices by appointment demand, availability, pass rate, route difficulty, or likelihood of producing an earlier appointment. DriveTestWatch does not have enough consistent regional observation data to support those comparisons.
Why there is no availability chart yet
Regional comparisons require the approved minimum of 30 consecutive days with adequate scan coverage across the included offices. At this guide’s August 5 update, the data did not meet that minimum. Some individual office pages publish preliminary observations that meet a shorter threshold; this guide will not compare offices until the full standard is met.
Future regional analysis will disclose the observation period, included offices and dates, successful versus expected checks, missing periods, deduplication, and that results are DriveTestWatch observations—not official DMV statistics. Read the full methodology.
How monitoring works
DriveTestWatch can monitor public behind-the-wheel appointment times at offices a customer selects. Active scans are scheduled every 10 minutes. When a scheduled check finds a new opening that matches the customer’s date and time settings, DriveTestWatch attempts to send an email and, if selected, an SMS alert. Checks and message delivery can be delayed or fail.
The service is alert-only and read-only. We alert, you book on the official DMV site. It does not request DMV credentials or book, hold, cancel, or reschedule appointments. Availability can change between a scan, alert delivery, and an attempt to book through the official DMV website.
